North 24 Parganas is the largest district, population wise of the country. To police nearly 9 millions population of the district nearly 500 Officers, 3000 Constables, 1700 Homeguards / NVF and a large number of traffic volunteers are deployed.  One of the major challenge for Police department today is approachability.
   With such a huge population, citizens to police ratio is a megre 2000:1. Genuine recording of the complaints is an area which will need special attention in days to come.
